One fine morning, Cathy Callaghan, landlady of a small bed and breakfast in Plymouth in the South West of England, finds a dead body in her garden. And it soon turns out that it is the body of a homeless man, well-known throughout the town, who has seen a lot more than was good for him.
For Bene Lerchenfeld, too, disasters come thick and fast. Annika, his girlfriend of many years, left him just as he was going to propose to her. And then there’s the accident in his be-loved old-timer…
Bene knows that something needs to change. And he wants to drink to that, from the bottle of home-made gin that he inherited from his late father. The gin tastes better than anything Bene has ever drunk before. So he decides to look for its lost recipe which means retracing the steps of his father, a search that will lead him to Plymouth, where Cathy and dead homeless man are waiting for him.
