A man looking for the gin of life, and a murder that gets in his way.
A murder in the South West of England, with the matching drink!
One fine morning, Cathy Callaghan, landlady of a small bed and breakfast in Plymouth in the South West of England, finds a dead body in her garden. And it soon turns out that it is the body of a homeless man, well-known throughout the town, who has seen a lot more than was good for him.
For Bene Lerchenfeld, too, disasters come thick and fast. Annika, his girlfriend of many years, left him just as he was going to propose to her. And then there’s the accident in his be-loved old-timer…
Bene knows that something needs to change. And he wants to drink to that, from the bottle of home-made gin that he inherited from his late father. The gin tastes better than anything Bene has ever drunk before. So he decides to look for its lost recipe which means retracing the steps of his father, a search that will lead him to Plymouth, where Cathy and dead homeless man are waiting for him.
‘Der Gin des Lebens’ (‘The Gin of Life’) is a knowledgeable mystery novel about a highly prized alcoholic drink, perfectly mixed with characters that immediately endear themselves to the reader, with many twists, a delicate sense of humour and a lot of suspense.
The press on his previous novels:
“Carsten Sebastian Henn, commonly known as the king of culinary mystery novels, creates a strong field of tension between your reading spot and your fridge. Rarely has a culinary mystery novel given me so much of an appetite. (…) Henn’s criminological ideas are refreshingly whimsical and wonderfully enriched with his culinary expertise.” Focus Online
“A tasty reading pleasure. The story comes alive in all its lovingly described and often quite eccentric characters. And, almost in passing, it serves as a knowledgeable introduction to the secrets of the Scottish national drink.” Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung
“The restaurant critic Carsten Sebastian Henn has written another great mystery novel. With a suspenseful plot, quirky characters and a lot of easily digestible expert knowledge about Champagne. A splendid, enjoyable reading pleasure.”
Westdeutsche Allgemeine
