“A breathtaking thriller on state-financed terror. The most shocking about it: It is based on reality. An absolute must-read!” – Daniele Ganser (Historian and Peace Researcher)
“A highly explosive thriller that shakes the reader to the core.” – Neon
“Not only a gripping thriller but also a highly contemporary and political book.”
– Kölner Illustrierte
And if the terror comes from the state? Whom can you trust?
The cameraman Marc Burth travels with his family to a small mountain village in Italy above the Arrocia Valley. The calm and tranquillity promise a peaceful stay. But Marc soon becomes wor-ried because of some strange occurrences. The Moroccan he finds next door one night nearly beaten to death and who claims it was the police who beat him. Marc is his only hope. Who are men driving a car with German licence plates who speed past Marc and who he shortly thereafter sees disappearing in the Moroccan’s house? Marc does some research and slowly comes to realise that he is on the heels of something monstrous: A state-run terror-network in which also high politicians seem to be involved. From the RAF to secret NATO armies during the Cold War: The state seems to have allied with terrorists, and possibly still does – there up on the mountain where Marc and his family suddenly aren’t safe any more… .
Martin Maurer’s highly explosive thriller deprives us of our belief to live in safety – protected by the police, by the institutions of the state. But what happens if this state violates its own values? Inconceivable cruelty is the result. “Terror” describes it with overwhelming suspense.
