Kafka as he has never been seen before

Heidelbach takes a fresh look at Kafka. And Kafka looks back at us in a fresh way, too: Nikolaus Heidelbach has compiled and illustrated his selection of stories by Franz Kafka. And lo and behold – one couldn’t wish for a better draughtsman to visually combine his dignity and humour. Whoever illustrates Kafka does not have to exaggerate or distort; it suffices to read him.
Nikolaus Heidelbach enables the discovery of an unexpected Kafka. He shows himself particularly clear-sighted in the prose works and fragments: visually overwhelming, original, with sustained humour. From the miniature to the longer narrative, there is always a moment that contains everything. Nikolaus Heidelbach has captured it – with pictures as if from Kafka’s own dreams.

His 1995 illustrated anthology of the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm was just as celebrated as his 2004 edition of the fairy tales Hans Christian Andersen. DuMont has published his books produced in collaboration with Wiglaf Droste and Vincent Klink “Wurst” (2006), “Weihnachten” (2007) and ›Wein‹ (2008).
