„This book is worth a recommendation in all respects – for all who like books. And who doesn’t.”
Henning Stumpp, Buchmarkt

“There are only a few situations in human life, when you can’t, couldn’t, shouldn’t … read books. But where do these books come from?”

This book will teach you what you (and Tucholsky) always wanted to know about making books. How do books emerge out of the authors’ thoughts and images? The chapter On publishing tells you for example about the decision making process in a publishing house, about editing, production and distribution. What distinguishes a good book from a sham package? Little merchandise knowledge will answer this question competently and offers ten rules to separate the wheat from the chaff. You love beautiful things? In an Trip to book design you are going to meet small caps and italics, tastes and preferences. Moreover, there are reflections on the book market, fixed book prices, the relation between content, economy and aesthetics – in short “How do books come to earth?” is a well made book for book lovers, for all who want to know what really makes a good book.
