SEPTEMBER KINDER. Eine Kapitänstochter auf den Spuren ihres Vaters/
SEPTEMBER CHILDREN. A captain’s daughter on her father’s trail
Non-Fiction/Travel-Memoir, ca.256 pp., Spring 2015
Travelling around South America on a container ship – a journey of self-discovery
Susanne Aernecke’s father was a captain on the high seas. He normally took his shore leave during the feast of love and togetherness at Christmas time. It’s no wonder then that almost all his descendants were born nine months later in the month of September. Six half-siblings, who first met at their father’s funeral in 1982. A highly unusual experience. Loosing a father on the one hand, gaining a large family on the other.
In ›September Children‹, Susanne Aernecke goes on a journey. Together with her sister Petra, she travels around South America on a container ship; repeating a voyage she made for the first time in 1981, only back then with her father. She hopes to discover a little more about the life of this person who was always a mystery to her, yet who nevertheless strongly influenced her life with his longing for the sea and the big wide world. And so the journeys finally come together as one - the journey to oneself.
Susanne Aernecke was born in 1961. Following a language degree and formal training as a film director, she went on to produce television documentaries (for ARD, ZDF, Arte, 3sat, Discovery).
